                                         Geographical landscapes of Pakistan

Pakistan is situated in the South-East Asian region of the world. It has China on it’s the North, India on the Eastern border, Afghanistan on the West, Iran on the South-Western border while having Arabian sea in the South.

Pakistan has “Five Provinces”, namely: –

  1. Punjab
  2. Sindh
  3. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – previously known as Sarhad or North-Western Frontier Punjab)
  4. Balochistan.
  5. Gilgit Baltistan.

Geographically, Pakistan’s landscape consists of the Five different types of landscape:-

  1. Plain lands
    This vast expanse of flat land stretches along the Indus River and its tributaries in the eastern part of the country, particularly in the provinces of Punjab and Sindh. The are the most agriculturally productive regions in Pakistan. Other smaller plains such as the Peshawar Plain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the Balochistan Plateau in the south-west.
  2. Mountains
    Pakistan is blessed with several mountainous regions, some of which are internationally renowned for their beauty and challenge. Here are some notable mountainous regions in Pakistan:
    i. Himalayas: The northernmost region of Pakistan is dominated by the Himalayas, home to some of the world’s highest peaks, including K2 (the second highest mountain in the world), Nanga Parbat, and Broad Peak. This region is known for its challenging climbing routes and breathtaking scenery.
    ii. Karakoram Range: Adjacent to the Himalayas, the Karakoram Range is famous for its sheer peaks and glaciers. It’s where you’ll find K2, often regarded as the most challenging peak to climb, along with other formidable summits like Gasherbrum I and II.
    iii. Hindu Kush Range: Located in the northwest of Pakistan, the Hindu Kush Range forms a natural border with Afghanistan. This rugged mountain range is known for its harsh terrain and high passes.
    iv. Pamir Mountains: Though mainly located in Tajikistan, a portion of the Pamir Mountains extends into northern Pakistan. This region is characterized by high-altitude plateaus and peaks.
    v. Sulaiman Mountains: Situated in the western part of Pakistan, the Sulaiman Mountains are a significant geological feature of the country. They extend from Balochistan province to the northwest, forming a natural boundary between the Iranian Plateau and the Indian subcontinent.These mountainous regions not only contribute to Pakistan’s stunning landscape but also play a vital role in its culture, economy, and biodiversity.
